What happens on an emergency call-out
- Make it safe: We isolate the affected circuit, or the whole supply if needed, so there’s no risk of shock or fire while we work.
- Find the fault: Using proper test equipment, we trace the cause, whether it’s a failed appliance, a damaged cable, a loose connection or a faulty RCD or breaker.
- Repair and test: We explain what we’ve found and what it will cost, carry out the repair, then test the circuit before we switch the power back on.
What to do before we arrive
If you smell burning or see sparks, switch off the power at the consumer unit, but only if you can reach it safely. Don’t touch a socket, switch or fitting that is hot, scorched or wet, and keep everyone away from it. If there is smoke or fire, leave the property and call 999. If your neighbours have lost power too, it’s probably a network fault, so call 105 to report it.
A fault that keeps coming back can point to wider wiring problems. Once the emergency is over, an EICR will show the condition of the whole installation.
